CNN’s Van Jones Mocks Republicans Who Danced Around Question of Accepting Election Results: ‘This Is Failing Kindergarten’
The 2024 election season was a hot topic on the Sunday shows, but the inability (or refusal) of some Republicans to answer whether or not they will accept the election results if it’s not in former President Donald Trump’s favor became a story by itself.
CNN anchor John Berman had a conversation with contributors Van Jones and Matt Gorman, a former advisor on Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) presidential campaign, to ask about Scott and other Republicans — some with hopes of becoming Trump’s running mate — not providing a simple answer to the question: “Will you accept the results of the 2024 election if Trump doesn’t win?”
After playing a montage of non-answers by Scott, Kari Lake, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Jones had a derisive response:
You know, this is failing kindergarten when it comes to politics. Like, yes, you accept the election results and you don’t insult the integrity of the American democratic process, which is the envy of the world. It has been the envy of the world. There is no evidence of any significant cheating at all. You know, .001 percent, and none of it affecting the outcome of the election. But these are the termites that you unleash into the foundation of a democracy that later on can come back and crash the whole house when you have people who no longer believe in the integrity of our elections, they are playing with fire. They’re playing with matches. They’re playing with nitroglycerin. This is one of the more despicable impacts of Donald Trump on the American body politic, this sort of nonsense from otherwise, you know, in some cases, good and decent folks.
