Don Lemon Grills Elon Musk About Meeting with Trump: ‘Did He Ask You for Money?’
Don Lemon interviewed Elon Musk and asked about a recent encounter the Tesla CEO had with former President Donald Trump.
Last week, Maggie Haberman reported in the New York Times that Trump, who is the presumptive Republican nominee and is beset by financial issues, met with fellow billionaire Musk and some wealthy Republican donors in Florida.
Trump is currently appealing a $354 million civil judgment against him in New York. With interest, the former president may owe more than $450 million. He is also appealing an $83.3 defamation judgment against him for defaming a woman whom he was found liable for sexually assaulting, for which he was ordered to pay $5 million. Additionally, Trump is under indictment in four jurisdictions and faces rapidly mounting legal bills.
Appearing on Wednesday’s OutFront on CNN, Lemon shared excerpts of his interview with Musk. During their conversation, Lemon repeatedly asked Musk if Trump sought money when they met. Lemon also asked if Musk has a preference in the presidential election:
LEMON: You recently met with Donald Trump in Florida. What did you guys talk about?
MUSK: I was at a breakfast at a friend’s place and Donald Trump came by. That’s it.
LEMON: What’d you discuss?
MUSK: I, uh, let’s just say he did most of the talking.
LEMON: Did he ask you for money?
MUSK: He didn’t.
LEMON: Are you going to loan him money to help pay his legal bills?
MUSK: I’m not, I’m not paying, paying his legal bills in any way, shape, or form.
LEMON: Did he ask you for a donation?
MUSK: No.
LEMON: Are you leaning towards anyone?
MUSK: No.
LEMON: You’re not leaning toward anyone? Because you’ve been very–
MUSK: Leaning away from Biden.
In another exchange, Musk got testy with Lemon, who asked about his past endorsement of replacement theory.
On Wednesday morning, Lemon said Musk canceled an agreement under which the former CNN host would create content on X, formerly Twitter.
Musk fired back by accusing Lemon of treating the interview as though Lemon were still working for CNN.
