Ex-RNC Chief Michael Steele Shreds Trump For Not Condemning Arrested Coast Guard Lt: ‘These Are His People’
Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele slammed President Donald Trump for not condemning Coast Guard Lieutenant Christopher Hasson, the Maryland man charged earlier this week with planning a mass terror attack against prominent Democrats and media personalities. In an MSNBC interview Friday afternoon, Steele said his “glass is no longer half full” when it comes to Trump.
The former RNC chair said Trump did not thank law enforcement for stopping Hasson’s terrorist plans because he agreed with those plans.
“Why would we be surprised a self-proclaimed nationalist would not speak out against a self-proclaimed white nationalist? Why are we asking this is a space Donald Trump is going to go in on behalf of the American ideal? No, he’s not,” he said. “These are his people, all right. And he’s not going to thank law enforcement because he’s probably not happy about what law enforcement did.”
Steele said he will no longer continue to act like Trump is not a problem and acting like a president.
“I’m not going to try to dress it up and be all pie in the sky and hopeful that oh, maybe in the next incident, Donald Trump will actually get it right, that he will have matured in his presidency enough to act like a president,” he said.
Finally, Steele concluded that there’s a question of how Trump would have reacted if the self-described white nationalist successfully carried out his terror attack.
