Federalist’s Bre Payton: Media Covers Melania Critically Because She Exposes Them As a ‘Bunch of Sexist Bigots’
First Lady Melania Trump has been more visible in recent months, and has consequently earned some criticism in the media, but according to The Federalist’s Bre Payton, the criticism is because Mrs. Trump “exposes” the media as “a bunch of sexist bigots.”
On Thursday afternoon’s edition of Your World with Neil Cavuto, host Neil Cavuto asked Payton if Donald Trump should make more frequent use of his spouse.
Payton agreed that he should, but then changed the subject to Melania’s Wednesday night interview with Sean Hannity.
“What is funny, since her interview with Sean hannity, what’s gotten the most attention is her hair color,” she claimed, citing an article from The Cut.
Cavuto joked “I wrote that story,” and added, “That kind of stuff, whatever you make of it, is all part of covering the first couple, right?”
“The reason why she gets critical attention from the media is because she exposes them for what they are, which is a bunch of sexist bigots who will cover you in such a way that is extremely sexist and bigoted if you’re not ultra liberal and fall in line with everything they say and tell you,” Payton said.
She made this claim on the air of the same network that called Michelle Obama Barack Obama’s “baby mama,” and accused her of sharing a “terrorist fist jab” with her husband.
Payton went on to complain that “Since her tenure in office, she’s had no major cover on a magazine, which is astounding considering she’s a really beautiful fashion model.”
Cavuto concluded the interview by telling Payton “I like your hair color, by the way. It’s very nice.”
Mrs. Trump has seen her poll numbers decline in recent months, but has also weathered a number of controversies that are substantive in nature. For example, her decision to wear a jacket that read “I Don’t Really Care, Do U?” while visiting detained migrant children was seen by many as a message.
And last month, Mrs. Trump called for the ouster of (now-former) White House deputy national security adviser Mira Ricardel, which precipitated Ricardel’s departure.
Less substantive was the uproar over Melania’s installation of a blood-red Christmas hellscape at the White House, but as Cavuto pointed out, some subjects are a natural part of covering a first family. In fact, when Michelle Obama was first lady, conservatives literally criticized her for having too many Christmas trees.
