George Stephanopoulos Challenges Jay Sekulow: ‘Cooperation is Collusion!’

During the height of last summer’s news cycle that focused on Donald Trump, Jr.’s meeting with Russian Lawyer’s, President Donald Trump’s  lawyer Jay Sekulow was a frequent visage on various news outlets, providing full throated defenses over alleged charges of collusion with Russia. With news of Robert Mueller charging Paul Manafort and Rick Gates, and former Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos, Sekulow has increased his media hits to explain and defend his client, who is dealing with renewed scrutiny from the Special Counsel.

Sekulow hit the same notes that many Trump surrogates have publicly made recently, underplaying Papadopoulos’s actual role in the campaign, before asking what is the crime. Sekulow said that it’s “Not clear from the documents what they were, the end result the meeting doesn’t take place so what you this is all this conversation about collusion.” He then reminded viewers of GMA that “collusion in and of itself — there’s no crime of collusion. What is a violation of law here?”

Stephanopoulos interjected by saying “collusion is cooperation,” to which Sekulow quickly replied “not condoned by the administration.” Stephanopoulos interjected again, saying “It’s cooperation and that’s what he was doing with Russians,” before turning to the now famous image of Papadopoulos seated at the table of Foreign Advisors during the Trump campaign.
