‘He Was Trolling Me’: Chuck Schumer Skewers Trump on The View, Says Dems ‘Are Fighting Them Very Hard’

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told the co-hosts of The View Tuesday morning that President Donald Trump was trolling him when he offered congratulations for the longtime senator’s role in averting the government shutdown.

Schumer, promoting his new book on the talk show, was asked about the Trump message on Truth Social. Trump posted Friday after Schumer voted in favor of the continuing resolution, avoiding a government shutdown.

“He was trolling me,” Schumer told panelist Joy Behar when asked about the Trump message. “I know this guy.”

He added: “He’s trying to confuse people. He always tries to confuse people. He tries to hide what he does, and by the way, that’s another — you know, we — we Democrats are fighting them very hard… Trump — he tries to hide all this. He tries to hide all this by talking about Greenland or changing the name to the Gulf of America.”

Schumer has been accused by members of his own party of caving to Trump when voting in favor of the continuing resolution last week. He subsequently canceled his own book tour out of fear of protests.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said Schumer made a “tremendous mistake.”

Jon Stewart tore into Schumer on The Daily Show Monday night, asking, “What the fuck happened?”

“You probably got a little something out of this, didn’t you?” Stewart said. “You wouldn’t have given up that powerful leverage on the budget for nothing. My guess is Chucky got some cheese.”

But Schumer defended his actions to The View panel, saying, “There are many fewer cuts in their bill than there would be in a shutdown. It was a bad choice. We have two choices: one bad, the other devastating — one chops off one of your fingers, the other chops off your arm.”

He added, “I want to fight, and we are fighting. We are going to fight every day on this — every day. Today we’re fighting them on Medicaid. Tomorrow we’re going to fight them on the next few days on tariffs. We’re going to fight them on social security, but I want to win and fight smart.”
