Fox News’ Howard Kurtz criticized a guest on his own network Wednesday morning, calling former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino’s derision of the Parkland shooting survivors “pretty sad.”
Bongino appeared on Tucker Carlson‘s show Tuesday night to decry the media for “using” the survivors of last week’s massacre at a South Florida high school. He also criticized the students themselves for their focus on gun control, and apparently suggested that they should instead be speaking out about how they missed warning signs about the disturbed shooter.
Bongino conceded to Carlson that while he respects the survivor’s right to speak, “they probably have not studied” the gun control issue.
And Kurtz, host of Fox News’ Media Buzz, didn’t have much time for Bongino’s comments.
“I don’t agree that the media are exploiting these Florida students at all, and to blame them for not knowing this was going to happen in advance, I think, is pretty sad,” he said.
“Look, they are old enough to weigh in on this debate, and having just gone through this utterly horrible and traumatic experience, they have a right to be heard.”
Kurtz added that while “most journalists, especially on the left, favor some gun control measures,” even the “conservative pro-Trump” New York Post has been promoting the student’s calls for action on gun control.
