‘I Hope They Put Him in Jail’: Greg Gutfeld Says Incarceration Would ‘Guarantee’ Trump Victory

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said he hopes Donald Trump is sent to jail because it will “guarantee” the former president wins November’s election.

Trump is on trial in Manhattan where he has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to cover up extramarital affairs before the 2016 election. He is also under criminal indictment in three other jurisdictions.

On Monday, Judge Juan Merchan held Trump in contempt after ruling that the former president violated a gag order for the tenth time. That order is meant to prevent Trump from attacking jurors and witnesses in the case. Merchan warned Trump he could face jail time if he runs afoul of the order again.

Trump and Republicans have claimed the cases against Trump are politically motivated and are being prosecuted to help President Joe Biden win reelection.

During Monday’s edition of The Five on Fox News, Gutfeld insisted being incarcerated would ensure a Trump electoral victory.

“I hope they do arrest Trump,” he said. “I hope they put him in jail because that does guarantee that he wins. Please, please, please. This is becoming the greatest third act of any political story.”

Gutfeld argued that the trial is “focusing and sharpening Trump.”

“He comes out of the gate like a bronco ready to just roar,” he went on. “And it’s working. I mean, man, it’s like he’s up. Keep it going.”

While there is no polling into how Americans would react if Trump is jailed for violating the gag order, there are no surveys showing Trump would benefit from a conviction. In fact, he would likely lose votes.
