Jake Tapper Tells Nikki Haley That Trump ‘Participated in an Erection’
Today in unfortunate misspeaks, CNN’s Jake Tapper informed Nikki Haley that former President Donald Trump “participated in an erection.”
The host of The Lead welcomed Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley to Monday’s show, where they discussed the U.S. Supreme Court’s unanimous decision ruling that Colorado may not bar Trump from the presidential ballot. The state’s supreme court had ruled the former president was ineligible because he had run afoul of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. That provision prohibits individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding federal office.
“I was very happy with the Supreme Court ruling,” Haley said. “Look, I’m trying to defeat Donald Trump fair and square. I don’t need them taking him off the ballot to do it.”
Tapper replied:
Right, the Colorado Supreme Court, of course, wasn’t saying – however partisan people might have thought that decision was – their official explanation was not they didn’t like Donald Trump. They said he participated in an erection and I have to– insurrection. Sorry. An insurrection. And I have to say, I got up at five this morning to do Kasie Hunt’s show and I’m exhausted.
As Tapper malfunctioned, Haley’s expression did not change, though she managed a laugh when Tapper said he was tired.
Trump is under indictment in Washington, D.C. because he attempted to overturn the 2020 election, which he falsely claimed was rigged against him. The former president is also on trial on state charges in Georgia for trying to subvert the election result in that state. On Jan. 6, 2021, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol after Vice President Mike Pence refused to oblige Trump’s urging that he refuse to certify the election results in Congress.
Tapper is not the first victim of Trump’s “erectionist” ways. Ahead of the former president’s 2021 impeachment trial, Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the upper chamber would need to determine if “Trump incited the erection.”
