James Carville Savages Dems for Starting ‘Seventh String Quarterback’ Kamala Harris In a ‘Super Bowl’ Election
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville savaged former Vice President Kamala Harris over the weekend, likening her to a backup quarterback starting in a Super Bowl who could not complete a full sentence.
Carville joined veteran GOP strategist Mike Murphy on PBS’s Firing Line with Margaret Hoover where the trio continued the ongoing post-mortem of the 2024 election.
Both Carville and Murphy laid some blame for President Donald Trump’s win on former President Joe Biden, who they agreed should have ended his reelection bid as far back as 2023. But Carville was also not willing to let Harris or the party leadership off the hook.
“We ran a presidential election,” he said. “If we were playing in a Super Bowl, we started our seventh string quarterback. That’s what happened. Okay, let’s – you can’t you can’t address a problem unless you’re honest about a problem. And none of this was inevitable. Never should have happened.” He continued:
Joe Biden stands over this disaster like a colossus. He just does. I mean, you can’t – he’s a great guy, James you shouldn’t say that – he’s a wonderful man. Who cares? If you don’t win the g*ddamn election, you’ve done nothing! Zip, nada. You don’t count. I don’t care how good a man you are. Until Democrats learn that and quit keeping their head in the cloud and talking goofy language and no one else talks. We got to be, you know, nice to people. Screw that! Run over them.
Carville later said that voters were forced to choose Harris or Trump and none of the “staggering talent” languishing on the Democratic Party’s bench.
“And people would have seen that, they would have gone, ‘I didn’t know that people like that, that can actually complete a sentence,'” he said. “We have not had an inspirational presidential candidate since 2012.”
