Jesse Watters Says Trump Could Win in a ‘Landslide’ Because He’s Been Indicted So Many Times
Fox News host Jesse Watters claimed the indictments against Donald Trump are so “unfair,” that the former president may win in a landslide thanks to sympathetic voters.
Trump is under criminal indictment in four jurisdictions. Two of those cases related to his attempt to overthrow the 2020 election. He has also been charged with retaining classified documents after leaving office. Finally, he faces 34 felony counts in Manhattan for falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments. In all, he has pleaded not guilty to the 88 counts he faces.
Right-wing media has echoed Trump’s claims about a “witch hunt” by portraying all the charges as politically motivated. Some conservatives have gone a step further by claiming that the indictments will actually help Trump – the presumptive Republican nominee – defeat President Joe Biden in November.
“Brilliant move by Democrats,” Watters said on Friday’s installment of The Five on Fox News. “You’re indicting this guy so many times, and then he can’t talk about how unfair it is? You’re rigging the election and he says ‘You’re rigging the election,’ and then he gets thrown in jail for saying you’re rigging this election. This is probably the best campaign strategy the Democrats have ever come up with.”
The former president is under a gag order that prevents him from talking about members of the court – though not Judge Juan Merchan – and their families. However, this did not prevent him from reposting a comment from Watters on social media on Wednesday in which the Fox host alleged “liberal activists” in the jury pool lied to the judge during juror selection.
Watters went on to say that he’s seen little anecdotal evidence of support for Biden before suggesting Trump could win big in the general election.
“And so, this could be a landslide that nobody sees coming because of how unfair this is,” he continued. “I would make them put me in jail. I would have a tweet about something, maybe perhaps I said on The Five or Jesse Watters Primetime and I would force them to throw me in jail if I were Donald Trump.”
