Joe Scarborough: FBI Should Reinvestigate Kavanaugh to ‘Stop Hateful Speculating On Both Sides’

The roller coaster Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh appears to have hit the section where riders are unsure if it’s about to go up or down. Let’s call this the “investigation” part of a ride that no one is particularly enjoying because, on this metaphorical rollercoaster, the participants have to agree on how the ride completes itself, and now seem temporarily stuck.

If that feels a tortured metaphor, it is no more tortured than the body politic trying to bring resolution to confirmation hearings that is at risk of being derailed due to the recent allegation of sexual assault (From 36 years ago) that has come to light from Dr. Christine Ford, and more to the point, should there be additional investigation into the nominee for the lifetime spot on the nation’s highest court.

It’s confusing times like this where the curious citizens look to reliable thought leaders to show the light to the end of the tunnel. Enter Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, who presents an increasingly rare moderate point of view.

His take? “Bring in the FBI. Bring in everybody that you can bring in and investigate it.”

Citing the previous example of the AnitaHill allegations revealed late in the Clarence Thomas hearing from the early 90’s, Scarborough argued that renewed background checks by the are more than reasonable given the new information.  He then called out people on both sides with prejudicial opinions on the case at hand, saying:

But it is so offensive for me, people I know on both sides, where you have people on the right calling Dr. Ford a liar, a fabulist, a political hack. We know she’s lying. She knows she’s lying. People that are fairly respected in their corner of the political world. And then you have people on the left who have basically acted as judge and jury of Kavanaugh and basically saying the woman must be believed, he is a rapist. Men, shut up, he is a rapist. So, both sides. People who have no idea are condemning Dr. Ford as a liar, condemning Judge Kavanaugh as a rapist.

He summed up by claiming the need to “do everything we can do to listen to him, but also, if the FBI can ask a couple of questions, get a little additional information, I don’t understand why that’s a bad thing. We could stop a lot of the hateful speculating on both sides.
