John Brennan Rips GOP for Missing ‘Spines’: ‘There Needs to Be Some Reckoning in the Republican Party’
Former CIA Director John Brennan not only stood by his comments about President Donald Trump‘s “treasonous” actions with Bill Maher tonight, but he also called out Republicans for not standing up to Trump more.
Maher offered Brennan some praise for being willing to say Trump’s committed treason, and said, “He takes their side and not ours! That’s a traitor! He calls you a lowlife! You who spent your life defending this country, especially after 9/11!”
Brennan said he didn’t want to be speaking out like this after leaving D.C., but this is a very “abnormal” time in the country.
At one point, after calling Trump “the typical authoritarian,” he had a few words about Republicans who aren’t standing up more to him by contrasting them with the integrity of Senator John McCain.
McCain’s family announced today he is stopping treatment and Brennan tonight sent out his thoughts and prayers to the McCains in this difficult time.
He said he and McCain fought many times over the years, but he would never question the senator’s integrity and service to the country.
However, he added, “since John McCain has left the hill, the Republican spines have gone with him. And there needs to be some reckoning in the Republican party that we can’t allow this to go on.”
