Joy Behar Shreds Louis C.K. For Jokes About Parkland Survivors: ‘I Think He’s Just in a Pathetic Place’
On The View on Wednesday, co-host Joy Behar lit up comedian Louis C.K., whose recent attempt at a comeback following his sexual misconduct scandal and disgrace became a controversy of its own.
“He needs a therapist badly,” said Behar of Louis C.K’s routine, which included a bit referencing Parkland survivor teens testifying before congress.
“He’s out there kicking — what do you call that, punching down, as we call it in the comedy world,” she said. “There’s so many targets to punch up to. There’s Trump, there’s everything going on in the world, there’s Brexit if you want to go there. There’s a million things to go after. Why would you pick kids who are suffering because of gun violence?”
“Pick the NRA. Pick the NRA, don’t go after the victim,” Behar continued. “Although maybe he sees himself as a victim so he identifies with the victimhood.”
Behar said that it’s “pathetic” that he would “pity himself” and that someone “as brilliant as Louis C.K.” should know better.”
The discussion continued, with co-hosts Abby Huntsman and Meghan McCain bringing up the idea that Louis C.K. may see himself as someone fighting political correctness. Host and comedian Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t agree, but did say comedy is basically up to the listener.
“Let’s be realistic. This has nothing to do with being PC. He’s always been edgy, he’s always done the humor that some people like it, some people don’t. I don’t think this has anything to do with that. I think either you like him or you don’t,” said Goldberg.
“You’ll either go and see if you like it or you won’t go,” she said. “That’s just the way it is.”
“I just think he’s in a pathetic place,” said Behar as they moved on to the next topic.
