‘Just Crazy!’ Joe Scarborough Blasts Trump for Wanting to ‘Let Fentanyl Flood Across the Border and Kill Americans’
Joe Scarborough was unable to hide his disgust with former President Donald Trump and the Congressional Republicans who appear unwilling to agree to a deal to help solve the border crisis.
President Joe Biden and Senate Democrats have put forth a bill that increases much-needed funding to border resources as a spike in immigrants has created a massive burden on the nation, not just southern border states. Senator Mitch McConnell recently signaled the bill was in trouble over Trump support in Congress who cynically see the border issue as politically damaging to Biden. Trump has reportedly told GOP members to kill the bill so Biden doesn’t get a “win.”
Trump appeared to confirm this cynical approach in a social media post that read :
A Border Deal now would be another Gift to the Radical Left Democrats. They need it politically, but don’t care about our Border. What is currently being worked on in the Senate will be meaningless in terms of Border Security and Closure. Four years ago we had the Safest and Most Secure Border in the History of our Country, and now we have the WORST, probably anywhere in the World. In any event, if you want to have a really Secure Border, your ONLY HOPE is to vote for TRUMP2024!
“You’ve got Donald Trump saying, ‘Let fentanyl flood across the border and kill Americans over the next year; let illegal immigrants keep flooding over the border; let’s not have a solution!'” Scarborough said with deep frustration. “This whole Donald Trump idea that keeping the border open is a winner for Republicans strikes the Wall Street Journal, and most sane Americans is just out. Yeah, no. Just crazy!”
Scarborough cited a Friday morning opinion essay from the conservative editorial board at the Wall Street Journal that was unsparing in its criticism of what they saw as a cynical partisan play, writing:
Yet giving up on a border security bill would be a self-inflicted GOP wound. President Biden would claim, with cause, that Republicans want border chaos as an election issue rather than solving the problem. Voter anger may over time move from Mr. Biden to the GOP, and the public will have a point. Cynical is the only word that fits Republicans panning a border deal whose details aren’t even known.
The GOP would also abandon the best chance in years to fix asylum law and the parole loophole that Mr. Biden has exploited. Mr. Trump while President in 2018 complained that such dysfunctions precluded him from fully restoring order to the border.
Willie Geist agreed with Scarborough’s comments, saying, “There are a few moments along the way, and this is really one of them that just really clarify and tell you the whole story, which is, ‘Are you working on behalf of the country? Are you working on behalf of people who want to see the border crisis resolved, that they don’t want drugs flooding, and that they think there should be an orderly and legal immigration system in this country? That’s what you’ve said you’ve wanted for generations.”
“And now, here it is.,” he continued. “And you won’t take it because Donald Trump is calling your office and telling you not to do it. And now, yesterday, he said publicly on his Truth Social, don’t do a deal until I get there, and then I’ll fix everything.”
