Leeann Tweeden Shares Letter of Apology From Al Franken: ‘I Am Ashamed’

Leeann Tweeden has shared a letter from Al Franken in which the senator personally apologized to her for his misconduct from when they worked together years ago.

Tweeden appeared on The View today, where she continued to elaborate on the experience she had with the former comedian during a 2006 USO tour. During the show, Tweeden read aloud from a note Franken sent her, where he expressed regret for groping her breasts while she slept.

Dear Leeann,

I want to apologize to you personally. I don’t know what was in my head when I took that picture, but that doesn’t matter. It’s no excuse and I understand why you can feel violated by that photo. I remember that rehearsal differently, but what’s important is the impact it had on you, and you felt violated by my actions. For that, I apologize. I have tremendous respect for your work for the USO, and I am ashamed that my actions have ruined the experience for you. I am so sorry.

Sincerely,

Al Franken

Yesterday, Franken released a public statement where he apologized for his misconduct and said he would comply with any possible ethics probes involving the incident. Today, Tweeden reiterated that she has accepted Franken’s apology, and said she would take Franken up on his offer for a face-to-face meeting to talk about what happened.
