Meghan McCain confronted James Comey on The View today about his book, and at one point she told him how very political he seems.
“I want to believe you’re not a political person,” she said. “You’re the head of the FBI. But you write in your book about you went to President Obama and you were on the verge of tears, saying you were going to miss him. You also said you were dreading the next four years with Trump.”
She brought up his tough criticisms of the Republican party (and his decision to leave it) and told him the issues he has are not “reflective of my party as a whole.”
“I don’t want to know your politics. And a lot of the things you’re saying and doing are highly political. And I just don’t understand what you gain trying to sort of clear the deck here.”
Comey said this is more about values than politics for him, but McCain brought up how his wife was a passionate Clinton supporter.
She again brought up his comments criticizing the GOP and said, “You sound like a political commentator to me.”
Comey again emphasized this is about values first and policy second for him, “and I hope that’s not a political statement.”
