Revealed: Declassified Info Shows FBI Probed Whether Or Not Trump Was a Russian Asset

Newly-declassified documents revealed the FBI opened an investigation into whether President Donald Trump was “wittingly or unwittingly” a Russian asset.

CBS News’ Jennifer Jacobs and Kristin Brown dropped a report on Wednesday about the declassified documents, which referred to a probe known as Oxferd Comma, which was a part of the overall Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The probe into Trump was launched after he fired then-FBI Director James Comey just months into his first term at the White House.

An administration official told CBS the Trump probe was rolled into then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, but the Trump asset theory was “found not to have any merit when the rest of the Mueller investigation was closed down.”

“I was unaware that the predicate for the obstruction included a claim that Donald Trump was somehow acting on behalf of [Russian President] Vladimir Putin,” the official told the outlet. “The short of it is, almost everything in the FBI’s possession at that point had debunked or ruled out that Trump or his campaign was colluding with Russia at that time.”

Trump and Comey have long been public enemies. Comey is currently being charged over a social media post he made where seashells on a beach made up the phrase “86 47,” which investigators claim was a direct threat on Trump’s life, noting that “86” can sometimes refer to killing. Comey has denied this and deleted the post from a North Carolina beach.

Comey claimed on MS NOW last year that he did not believe the message was threatening.

“We stood over it and I said, I think it’s some kind of political message and she said, ’86’ when I was a server — she did a lot of working in restaurants meant to remove an item from the menu when you ran out of ingredients,” he said. “And I said, well, to me, as a kid, it always meant to leave a place, to ditch a place. I said, that’s really clever. So then she said, you should take a picture of that. And I did, and I posted it on my Instagram account and thought nothing more of it.”
