Michael Cohen’s Lawyer Appeals to Trump Voters: Listen to the Tape and Tell Me Trump’s Not Lying

Lanny Davis, who is the attorney of Donald Trump’s longtime lawyer and ally Michael Cohen, made an appeal to the president’s supporters during the release of Cohen’s infamous tape on CNN tonight: “Listen to the tape,” then “ask yourself, is Donald Trump lying?”

Davis released the tape recorded by Cohen to CNN host Chris Cuomo in which the now-president can be heard saying that they should pay off a Playmate claiming she had an affair with Trump using “cash.” Davis pointed to this specific comment to suggest the president is guilty of lying.

Cohen’s lawyer went on the following monologue dedicated to everyone who “voted for Donald Trump” while speaking with Cuomo:

“I don’t know where Giuliani is getting his words, but I can tell you what everybody in America heard. The false accusation against Michael Cohen is that he used the word “Cash.” The tape says false. The tape is the truth. Then Rudy Giuliani says he didn’t know about Karen McDougal until this meeting. We know––listen to the tape. Donald Trump is not shocked that money is being paid concerning someone named Karen McDougal. And finally, we know that Trump has lied even during the campaign when his campaign spokesman denied two months after this tape that he knew anything about Karen McDougal. Ladies and gentlemen, if you voted for Donald Trump, listen to the tape and ask yourself, is Donald Trump lying when he said he didn’t use the word ‘cash’ and accuses Michael Cohen of using the word ‘cash’? Cohen has been disparaged. Cohen has been insulted and called all sorts of things by people around Donald Trump, and the question is: why are they attacking him? Why am I representing him? Because he’s got truth on his side, and he will continue to tell the truth.”

Davis went on to say that he’s “smiled a bit and laughed” at Rudy Giuliani, who is counseling the president on legal issues as he battles the Stormy Daniels scandal, as he believes it is “laughable” that the former New York City mayor is trying to “twist” what can be heard on the tape.
