Mika Brzezinski: Elizabeth Warren SHOULD Do a Fox News Town Hall Despite Their Peddling of Trump’s Racist Corruption
One of the first rules of cable news punditry is to never take a “both sides” approach in analyzing the news; pick a side and fiercely stick to it. There are rare examples when that doesn’t apply, which Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski illustrated Wednesday morning in reacting to Elizabeth Warren’s announcement that she would not go on Fox News town hall, and laced into the largely conservative cable news outlet as a “hate-for-profit racket.
Warren’s public dismissal of Fox News — and the outsized ratings that their hosted town halls provide compared to their fellow cable news competitors — has sparked an interesting debate about Dems appearance on a network that features a vast majority of pro-Trump opinion programming. (By the way, Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher was way ahead of this trend and wrote this piece three months ago.)
Brzezinski opened by noting that “just because there’s a bunch of good journalists who work there doesn’t erase what’s going on there, which one could argue is exactly as Elizabeth Warren describes it.” She followed by noting “a direct connection from a corrupt president who is a racist, to megaphones who people who pedal it. That does happen on Fox. That is clear.”
Then she hedged by arguing that a “presidential candidate should be able to walk into any situation, walk into any fire, and have the confidence and the ability to put it out, by spreading the democratic values and his or her beliefs.” She ultimately landed on her position that Democratic Presidential candidates “should go into Fox and do all the town halls they can do. Fox, you could argue, is smart to be doing these. That’s a sign of some sort of change.”
As the segment ended, she also noted that by going on Fox News, candidates can say what they think of the primetime hosts.
