Mike Allen: Mueller ‘Much More Interested in What Happened After The Election Than Before’

Mike Allen appeared on MSNBC Monday to talk about the latest Axios report that gives an indication of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s end game.

MSNBC debuted a spanking new segment with Axios on Monday, set to air just before Morning Joe daily, based on Allen’s “1 Big Thing” — the scoop that leads his flagship newsletter Axios AM.

Allen said his reporting gives “a big indication of what Mueller’s end game may be, a little sneak peak at where he’s headed.”

“We’re told that in conversation with the Trump lawyers, that Mueller is much more interested in what happened after the election than before,” Allen said. “So he’s very interested in the firing of James Comey, he’s very interesting in the firing of national security adviser Michael Flynn.”

“That suggests he’s looking more at obstruction of justice, things that might have happened in office, than he is at collusion, maybe something that happened during the campaign.”

Trump fired Flynn in February, less than a month after he took office, claiming it was because his adviser lied to VP Mike Pence over his contacts with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak. Trump later fired Comey, the FBI director, citing his handling of the Clinton investigation as the reason — but the move raised serious concerns over whether he was trying to obstruct justice given the FBI’s probe into his campaign’s Russia ties.
