‘She Was Picked as a Housewife’: Alabama’s Other GOP Senator Has Nothing But Praise For Katie Britt’s SOTU Response

Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) praised fellow Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) for her response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Friday, despite Britt’s delivery being widely panned.

Britt attacked Biden shortly after he delivered his remarks from her kitchen in Alabama, bashing the president for his response to the influx of immigration at the southern border. Democrats and some Republicans mocked Britt for giving the response from her kitchen in a particularly dramatic and overwrought fashion.

However, Tuberville offered nothing but praise for Britt following her speech, adding that Alabama voters not only elected her to be a senator but also a “housewife.”

“She was picked as a housewife, not just a senator, somebody who sees it from a different perspective,” Tuberville said, according to HuffPost reporter Igor Bobic. “I mean, she did what she was asked to do. I thought she did a good job. And it’s hard when you’ve never done anything like that.”

Tuberville gave an interview on Newsmax where he reiterated his praise, noting that she did well “considering the circumstance.”

Well, considering the circumstances, I thought she did very well. And, you know, she’s a mom, she’s a housewife. She’s around people, in a young age. And if you just see what the left is doing, they’re going after families. They’re going after separating families, taking the dad out of the family. They’re going after kids in the schools, not allowing them to to learn to read, write and do arithmetic. They’re they’re they’re being indoctrinated. And all these, these pronouns and all these books that are in the library about sexuality. I thought Katie was a was a very good choice.

She did a very good job. It’s a hard job to do to come out and and criticize. But she had one point to make. You know, she didn’t have enough time to to go and, you know, criticize everything Joe Biden talked about. She had the narrative of talking about family. And that’s what Republicans are for. Democrats are against family. So I thought it was a good narrative. I thought Katie did a good job. And and again, it’s very hard to do. And unfortunately, people are going to criticize, people that that do anything in public.
