Stuart Varney Hits GOP Over Inflated Budget: ‘What on Earth’ Are They Thinking?
Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney took a shot at Republicans Monday morning, for their abandonment of “financial restraints” — asking “what on earth” is going on with the party.
While the GOP often pushes the idea that they are the side of financial conservatism and limited government spending, their latest budget proposal gives off an entirely different message. Rather than focusing on that message of frugality, President Donald Trump and Republicans are spending trillions more dollars with no hope of cutting the national deficit over the next decade.
Varney responded to the proposal by saying: “It seems like the idea of restraint on the part of policy makers — whether it’s the president, the Republicans, or the Democrats — it has gone out the window. Everybody wants to spend now.”
The host then brought on GOP Congresswoman Claudia Tenney of New York, asking her “what on earth the Republican Party thinks it’s doing.”
“Sorry to introduce you that way, Claudia — big friend of the program. It does occur to me that your party, the GOP, has abandoned financial restraints,” added Varney.
Tenney defended her vote by invoking the standard support for the military line, since “the biggest enemy that the United States Army and military faces is the U.S. Congress.”
She continued by blaming government fraud, waste, and abuse on “entitlements,” rather than the military and infrastructure spending the GOP is promoting.
While Varney did applaud the congresswoman for the Republican tax bill, he continued hammering her party over the spending issue. “But seriously, every single year, ‘we’ve got to cut waste and fraud, this year we’re going to do it.’ Never happens. Never happens,” Varney said.
