The Q&A portion of a beauty pageant can sometimes get bluntly topical (see: Carrie Prejean), and on last night’s Miss USA pageant, Miss Louisiana Brittany Guidry got a question about the big issue in the news: Bowe Bergdahl and the release of five Taliban commanders to bring him back home.
There’s been much political debate over whether bringing home one soldier (who possibly deserted his platoon) in exchange for letting five Taliban members go free was worth it. Ian Ziering brought up the controversy and asked, “Do you think it’s fair to sacrifice or swap lives in order to uphold this policy?”
Guidry answered, “I am glad that we got our guy back. However, I do not feel it is right that we subject ourselves to these acts of terrorism.”
More beauty pageant contestants should get questions about terrorism. Might shake things up.
