WATCH: Sinclair Airs Ad Bashing Group For Anti-Media Promos, With a Big Caveat
Remember when that liberal watchdog group announced it was looking to buy ad space on Sinclair networks to air commercials slamming the group’s”must run” anti-media promos?
Well, apparently Sinclair agreed, so long as the ad spots are sandwiched in between two Sinclair PSAs undermining the ad, CNN’s Brian Stelter first reported: “So viewers are seeing a 15-second defense of Sinclair, then 30 seconds of criticism, then another 15-second defense.”
The watchdog group announced on Thursday that it was looking to make a six-figure ad buy on channels owned by Sinclair, to run a commercial that used the viral Deadspin video exposing the network’s Orwellian anti-media promos.
As you can see above, before the Allied Progress video plays, a creepy Sinclair PSA appears, with a voice over stating:
“This station, which is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, is proud to present both sides of issues. For that reason, we have agreed to air the commercial you are about to see, opposing Sinclair’s acquisition of additional television stations. We think the ad is misleading, but wanted to let you decide. Thank you.”
Then the Allied Progress ad plays, urging viewers to call the FCC and voice their opposition to Sinclair’s attempted acquisition of Tribune Media, which would dramatically expand the group’s growing monopoly of local T.V. media.
And after the Allied Progress ad finishes up, another Sinclair PSA plays, declaring:
“The misleading ad you just saw focused on a brief promotional message that simply said we’re a source for truthful news,” the Sinclair voiceover says. “It ignored thousands of hours of local news we produce each year to keep you informed. The ad was purchased by a group known for its liberal bias, and we hope you won’t buy into the hysteria and hype.”
Only after that chilling back and forth do you get to watch Big Bang Theory. It’s lose-lose.
