‘Wow!’ Morning Joe Crew Stunned By Montage of Trump Repeated Gaffes from Weekend Rallies
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were equally stunned by a montage of confusing gaffes by former President Donald Trump over a weekend of political rallies, each exclaiming “wow!” coming out of the montage aired on Monday’s Morning Joe.
Taking an apparent page from the “Best Defense is a Good Offense” playbook, the MSNBC morning show hosts brought attention to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s occasional oratorical mistakes as he addressed supporters over the weekend.
This comes just days after a perfect storm of negative attention about President Joe Biden’s mental acuity became a national discussion at the end of last week, overtaking a stunning Supreme Court hearing on whether Trump can be included on Colorado’s ballot because he is thought by Colorado’s state Supreme Court to have taken part or led an insurrection.
The montage started with Trump talking about “$7,000 opportunities” provided to rich people; he talked about how, if he weren’t running for president, he’d be spending his Saturday afternoon in a “very nice place,” which felt like a dig on the location from which he was speaking.
Trump’s “gaffes” weren’t even that unique given his normal Borscht Belt style insult comedian schtick, like “We were like the stupid country of the world. And we’re not going to be the stupidest country of the world any longer. We’re not going to be.”
There was Trump bragging about “knowing all about the marbles” and “powerful tractors” and his dire warning that “they are going to change the name of Pennsylvania.”
When the report from Special Counsel Robert Hur dropped and revealed a lot of damning innuendos about Biden’s memory, the Morning Joe crew understandably cried foul at the unnecessary partisan bromides they saw in the confidential report released in full by AG Merrick Garland.
But rather than defend Biden’s sharpness, Trump’s political appearances, combined with a heavy edit removing some context — combined with his elliptical way of speaking — gave Morning Joe enough fodder to pivot to Trump’s mental acuity instead.
Axios reported that Biden is apparently “obsessed” with Morning Joe, and that he and Scarborough frequently speak on the phone.
