Al Franken Flip-Flops on Kathy Griffin Event, Cancels After Initially Standing Firm

In the aftermath of Kathy Griffin‘s somewhat-ill-conceived photo shoot with the bloody, severed head of President Donald Trump, few were willing to cast their lot with the controversial comedian–except for one old friend, the junior senator from Minnesota, Al Franken

The morning after that shocking photo shoot sent waves of rage across the media landscape, Franken told CNN‘s, Alisyn Camerota that he still intended to appear onstage with Griffin at an event promoting his latest book.

But, sensing the tailwinds–Franken has now cancelled the previously-scheduled event in what can only be described as a classic case of political flip-flopping.

Franken said, according to Politico:

“After hearing from many Minnesotans who were rightfully offended, I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be best for her not to participate in the event we had previously scheduled. I understand why Minnesotans were upset by this, and I take that very seriously.”

All in all, it seems the former SNL star and writer just wants to be good enough, smart enough–and have people like him.
