Black Fox News Guest Says Black Americans are ‘Poorer, Dumber and More Criminalized’

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.04.07 PMOn Monday morning’s Fox and Friends, a featured guest told an approving Steve Doocy that black Americans are “poorer, dumber, and more criminalized,” but don’t worry, folks. It’s not racist because the guest was black, and she was blaming Democrats for all the poor, dumb, murdering blacks.

I’m kidding, of course. Not about the guest, author and ConservativeBlackChick.com proprietor Crystal Wright, who is black, but about the remarks, which are racist. Racist AF.

Doocy kicked things off with a “joke” about how Wright should be a Democrat (because black), before allowing Wright to go into her patter about how black Americans are poorer, dumber, and more criminalized because of that dreaded Democrat Party. Along the way, Wright evokes the favorite racist “blacks are killing each other” trope, which would only be true if every black murder victim were also a murderer, but never really gets around to explaining how the Democrats made all those blacks so dumb and murder-y:

Doocy: You talk about over the last 40 years, trillions of dollars have been put to fight poverty, yet poverty is proliferating in many neighborhoods because?

Wright: Well, because of Democrats and the con that they’re running on black Americans. They have made black Americans poorer, dumber, and more criminalized.

Doocy: Why do you say that? That’s their end game?

It’s not just me. Look, 93% of, you know how the President goes around, wants to talk about regulating legal gun ownership? I’ve never seen Barack Obama talk about the black lives being killed by other blacks in Chicago DC, or Baltimore. 93% of all black homicides are committed by other black people. And you know the number one cause of death among young black men ages 15 to 34? Guns! Illegal guns, cuz hey’re killin’ each other! That’s the con job. But yet, black people keep voting against their interests, and I would argue the Democrat Party is literally killing black Americans from the womb to the streets.

Not that it matters, since Wright’s generalizations are inherently racist, but they’re not even based on actual facts. First of all, President Obama does talk about murders in places like Chicago, like when he said “it happens on the streets of Chicago every day” just last week to everyone in America. So do #BlackLivesMatter and other black activists, contrary to popular lies.

Second of all, 83% of all white homicide victims are killed by other white people, and no one says “white people are killing each other,” or “what’s up with white-on-white crime?” because white violence is not seen as inherent.

Then, there’s Wright’s assertion that all that mutual black murder is being committed with “illegal guns,” which is flat-out wrong any way you look at it. According to the most recent Bureau of Justice Statistics data, only 40% of criminals in state prisons obtained their guns from an illegal source, and as President Obama pointed out, many crime guns are purchased legally somewhere else, then resold to criminals in Chicago.

As for the partisan angle, murders declined from 24,000 a year to just under 16,000 during Bill Clinton’s presidency, went up by about a thousand under George W. Bush, and then down to about 14,000 a year under Obama.

Wright also doesn’t provide any evidence that black Americans are “dumber,” let alone that Democrats are making black Americans “dumber,” but black Americans are, in fact, progressing in several key educational indicators under President Obama. Pretty much the only bit of anything she provides is the fact that 37% (not 40%) of all abortions are obtained by black women, which is supposed to prove either the dumbness, the murderiness, the poorness, or all three, I guess.

Wright is correct that Democrats have offered black voters a crummy bargain for the last 40 years, but it’s not the one she’s talking about. They’ve taken black votes by being better than Republicans, but have routinely campaigned against black interests when it has suited them. That seems to be changing, we’ll see.

Wright’s act is the same concern-troll as every other Republican who pretends to be reaching out to black voters, but is really just reassuring white voters that they’re not racists, it’s just that the blacks are too dumb or lazy to get off the free-stuff “Democrat plantation.”

What makes Crystal Wright special, though, is that she knows firsthand that the Republican Party literally has nothing to offer black voters. In 2012, she was tapped to develop a website that the GOP commissioned to do black outreach, which was then scrapped because they didn’t have any other black outreach activities to go with it.

When the story came out, GOP spokesman Sean Spicer tried to lay the whole thing off on a broader digital strategy, but Wright, who developed the proposed site, saved her emails:

On Aug. 1, 2012, Wright contacted the RNC about what to tell (Rep. Allen) West about the site as it became clear the site had fallen out of favor with Spicer and the RNC.

“Here’s what I suggest,” Vallante said in an email to Wright. “The web site is held up because other than the website that you built for the Co-Chairman, there are no other programs or plans to reach black voters at the RNC, and people here are concerned that the website is ‘not enough.’ And if [he] asks who he should call – the answer should be the Chairman’s office. I think being honest is the right way to go, not dance around.”

Spicer also told Buzzfeed reporter Darren Sands, who is black, that “You can quote me on this: I think it’s embarrassing that you’re writing this story,” a response that Wright took exception with on Twitter at the time:


Now, she’s back to bashing Democrats, which, let’s be honest, is good business for the Republicans, too.
