Creepy George W. Bush Billboard Asks Minnesotans: “Miss Me Yet?”
Minnesota got a special treat recently when a billboard depicting a jolly-looking former Pres. George W. Bush appeared over Interstate 35 asking, “Miss me yet?”
The idea was too surreal to actually exist for many people who called “Photoshop” at first sight, but NPR confirmed yesterday that it was, in fact, looming over the Minnesota landscape, waving uncomfortably to drivers on their way to work.
The billboard has no other indication of its meaning and the recently-discovered owners of this handiwork give little indication of their meaning, leaving every aspect of this strange pseudo-advertisement up to speculation. A group of small businessmen pooled together the money for the billboard because, they tell Asylum, they “thought Washington was against them.”
Given that both Bush and Obama resided in the White House, the intention remains unclear. Some believe it is a cynical attempt to make the point that President Obama has been so inept at his job that he makes Bush, of whom perhaps they also disapprove, look like a real contender. Others see it as genuine appreciation for the 43rd president, while some conspiracy theorists see it as a mockery of the Tea Party movement. The Huffington Post theorized that the President put the billboard up himself, just because he found that picture of himself pre-hamburger toss so darn cool. Given it is in Minnesota, the bountiful land that gave us Michele Bachmann and, well, Al Franken, there is really no way to tell whose joke this is, although there is little doubt that someone is having a hearty laugh about this somewhere. Did anyone keep track of where David Letterman was this weekend?
Here’s an FNC segment about it today:
