Facebook, ABC News Team Up To Make Democracy Less Boring
Want to watch a live town hall meeting featuring ABC News correspondents, Facebook employees, and college students? There’s an app for that. As part of their multi-pronged Election Day plan, Facebook and ABC’s David Muir will be co-anchoring a discussion at Arizona State University this evening, just as results should start rolling in.
Facebook is striving to make democracy as fun as possible this year, replete with polling place locators, digital “I Voted” buttons (like the ones in real life!), and a nifty Races to Watch Tip Sheet (compiled by the non-partisan Voting Information Project). These features will appear on the homepage of all Facebook users aged 18 and up. But will these new apps actually inspire the social media generation to stop playing FarmVille for the amount of time it takes to vote? Like everyone else, we’ll have to wait until tonight and see.
