Gingrich Warns GOP About ‘Overreach’: Scandals Beyond Their ‘Wildest Dream,’ But Stay ‘Factual’

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, speaking to NPR on Friday, warned his party about overreaching in their approach to the trio of controversies President Obama is facing. While Republicans need to be relentless in their response, Gingrich urged a focus on facts.

“I think we overreached in ’98,” Gingrich recalled, quipping, “How’s that for a quote you can use?”

Which is not to say Republicans should not be persistent. “They need to be calm and factual,” Gingrich advised. “For example, a subcommittee of Ways and Means should invite every single tea party, conservative, patriot group that was messed over by the IRS — every single one of them — to come in and testify, so that they build this deadening record of how many different people were having their rights abused by the administration.”

“You can’t make up these narratives,” he remarked. “This is beyond any conservative’s wildest dream.”

Indeed — the stuff of high-fives behind closed doors.
