HuffPo Continues Drive for DC Dominance, One WaPo Employee at a Time
First she scooped up columnist Dan Froomkin, shortly after his controversial firing from the Washington Post. Now Arianna Huffington appears to be buying herself one step closer to DC legitimacy with WaPo evacuee, Jose Antonio Vargas.
Looks like all that venture money HuffPo got back in December is going to good use [Media Decoder]:
In Mr. Vargas’s case, she had been exchanging emails with him regularly since the election. “I love his passion for communicating how technology impacts our lives, and exploring the many ways the Internet can be harnessed to reach new readers and engage existing ones more deeply — something we’ve been working on at HuffPost since the beginning,” Ms. Huffington said.
Antonio Vargas will join the staff of 46 employees as the new technology and innovations editor:
“I’m excited to work with Arianna and the HuffPost team to a launch a Technology section that captures all the ways in which technology has transformed and continues to impact our lives – from the latest gadgets and innovations to the rise of social networks and the way tech has changed our understanding of journalism and of community. I’m looking forward to helping expand HuffPost’s place in this exciting conversation.”
Ahh yes, the exciting conversation.
