Laura Bush And Michelle Obama To Appear At 9/11 Event Together

Last week a number of pundits, most prominently Maureen Dowd, called for former President George W. Bush to weigh in on the Lower Manhattan mosque furor. Seems like they may get a far milder version of that.

Politico reports today that Former First Lady Laura Bush is set to appear with First Lady Michelle Obama in Shanksville, Pennsylvania — where United flight 93 went down — on the 9th anniversary of Sept. 11. “Administration officials said the event will build on Michelle Obama’s focus on the heroes of 9/11 — celebrating their heroism, honoring their memories, and supporting their families.”

Considering the current political climate it will no doubt also be read as some subtle gesture of support from the previous administration to the current one regarding the current uproar over Ground Zero.

It’s the only thing Obama hasn’t blamed on Bush, 9/11, think that was right after Clinton left office. Another one who thought he was loved by everyone. If I was Mrs. Bush, I know she won’t because she’s has too much class, I’d tell the Obama’s we’ll do our own but thanks anyway.

Oh please make them stand beside each other – the imaginary visual is just delightful!

I am so proud of Laura Bush and Michelle Obama. Laura sets the bar for “taking the high road” and Michelle handles her role with dignity and class. God bless them both. It seems our presidential wives could teach the world a little more about working for the “greater good” despite political differences and the opinions of others. I wish one of them would run for office.
