Michael Bloomberg On Anthony Weiner: ‘Like Spitzer, He Had No Friends’

The New York Post‘s Cindy Adams quotes New York mayor Michael Bloomberg explaining why nobody’s come forward to defend–or even support–Rep. Anthony Weiner. “Like Spitzer, he had no friends,” Adams quotes Bloomberg, who hosted a “Made in New York” party at Gracie Mansion. Bloomberg said Weiner should’ve “owned up right away” to his history of sexting and using social media to flirt–and more–with young women.

But as Bloomberg noted, the mess may kill Weiner’s hopes to run for mayor himself in 2013, but his career’s likely not over:

But, listen, the public quickly forgets. Half don’t even remember Monica Lewinsky. In Sao Paolo recently, they’d forgotten Goldman Sachs’ chairman Lloyd Blankfein, who contributed to our financial crisis.
“I think some of these people do things like that just because they’re bored.”

So why don’t they just take up Scrabble?

“I don’t know. I don’t play Scrabble,” replied our sovereign, who then decided enough of me and walked away.

Bloomberg? Who gives a toss what he thinks? And why are people making such a big deal about the girls Weiner was flirting with were younger? They were all above the age of 20. They were consenting participants in the sexting and the flirting. And now, they’re all running to claim their 15 minutes. The only thing scandalous about Weiner’s case is that he had time to work, spend time with his family, flirt with lots of pretty women AND he still had time to work out. Now that’s multi-tasking. The only reason the Rethugs want him to resign is he’s a giant thorn in their side. The PARTY OF NO can’t stand it when he hits the floor and scolds them for their duplicitous dealings. They want him gone. I hope he stays. There have been politicians who’ve done far more scandalous things than what Weiner’s “guilty” of and they didn’t go anywhere.

So New York has two obnoxious guys ? Or is it three ?

How would you know… unless you were his friend?

Fact: He was after my job? I say again Weiner had no friends.

Being scolded by Weiner. That is very disturbing. I hope he stays too. He is a non stop punchline..

I do not want Weiner to resign. He is doing to the Democratic party in just 2 weeks what the Republicans couldn’t in 5 years. Also, some people have been pointing out that other politicians have done even worse things than Weiner and have stayed in office. A terrific example that immediately comes to mind is that of Teddy Kennedy killing his girl friend. Maybe the torch has been passed to the next generation.

Fact: He has more name recognition in just over a week as a democrat than most in thier full careers.

Newt didn’t kill anyone. Contrary to your statement, his ex wife was not dying, hasn’t died and doesn’t have anything particularly bad to say about him.

He did recently murder his Presidential run though.
