Mika Brzezinski Blasted For Making Homophobic Remark About Mike Pompeo: ‘Deeply Disturbing’

Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski apologized on Twitter today after the homophobic slur she used against Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on-air. But her apology-by-tweet hasn’t been enough to satisfy some observers.
“I understand that Donald Trump doesn’t care,” Brzezinski said this morning during a segment on President Donald Trump’s reaction to Saudi Arabia murdering Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. “But why doesn’t Mike Pompeo care right now?”
“Are the pathetic deflections that we just heard when he appeared on Fox & Friends — is that a patriot speaking?” She continued. “Or a wannabe dictator’s butt-boy? I’m dead serious, I’m asking: are these the words of a patriot?”
Shortly after the segment went viral on Twitter, Brzezinski shared an apology: “Totally agree with you -SUPER BAD choice of words .. I should have said “water boy”… like for football teams or something like that.. apologize to @SenatorDurbin too! SO SORRY!”

Even with the apology, Brzezinski’s insult choice has received widespread condemnation in both the mainstream media and conservative media:
This is bad. Will require more from Brzezinski than a Twitterpology. https://t.co/GoTKn23wrl

This apology isn’t good enough. Not a simple oops moment. It’s deeply disturbing.

This “butt boy” comment could be problematic for Mika. Good news for her is that Colbert made similar comments some dubbed homophobic last year and no reprimand came. Smart money here is apology and no consequences. https://t.co/NSDGdkwnfW

.@morningmika just asked if Mike Pompeo is a “wannabe dictator’s butt boy,” as homophobic a term as I’ve heard on national morning television. @MSNBC tried and failed to censor it, and did not transcribe her remark in the closed captioning. #journalism pic.twitter.com/3zK7H8evjh

I’m so sorry. Next time, I’ll try to be more like MSNBC’S Mika Brzezinski … “Mika must apologize for ‘gang attack’ on Pastor Mark Burns” https://t.co/pCBGt5llqz
