Naive Much? Van Jones Explains How He Landed On A 9/11 Truther Petition

Van Jones — for months now only visible as a head on Glenn Beck’s chalkboard representing all the is evil, Maoist, and worst of all, progressive in Barack Obama’s administration — raised his actual head last night and addressed the rampant rumors that he is a 9/11 Truther after his name appeared on a Truther petition.

Jones did a rare interview with PBS’s Tavis Smiley last night during which he described his experience and subsequent (voluntary) resignation from the White House as “learning a tough lesson.” He also notes that actually believes that 9/11 was a “conspiracy…by al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden and nobody else.” Jones said his signature appeared on a 9/11 truther petition after he met some people at a conference who told him they “represent 9/11 families” and that they needed his help and Jones said “sure, whatever you want.”

“And then these people, I didn’t know what their agenda was, they went and put my name on some abhorrent crazy language, that they never showed me, I never saw, and it just sat there on his website for years. Somebody discovered it, and then boom.”

And then boom, Jones decided to resign instead of dragging the President down with him. Also? If this is actually how it happened than Jones may be the most naive person to walk the planet, and the White House vetters need to acquaint themselves with ye olde Google alert. Video below.

What a filthy liar and how is abetted by Glynnis and Mediaite and PBS.

People make mistakes! Thank God for forgiveness!

  • Grammie

    Forgive mistakes, yes!

With Van Jones “mistake” doesn’t enter into it and we have two choices:

If he is that naive and incompetent why would we give him the power to control billions of dollars of tax money?

If he simply got caught out in this (BTW what is his excuse for HIS actual statements) why would we…..?

Jones was ‘vetted’ as carefully as a White House guest list.

During the Van Jones flap there was reference made to numerous other people whose names appeared on similar petitions with language they were aware of – they never elaborated or responded with the full story. @JimW, we know the name was on the petition – that’s what we know. How it got there, what level of awareness was brought to bear on placing it there – well, could be naivete, or could be revisionism, or who knows what. But “filthy liar” is a little strong, and also damn difficult to prove, hmm?

But I think Grammie brings up an good point. If he’s goofy enough to allow his name to go on such a petition, then how can we trust him with federal dollars, and a position of leadership? So either he’s a liar and this is just a creative (not that creative) story… or he’s a dope, and shouldn’t have been hired in the first place.

    Both of the above.

  • Grammie

Rachel, I wasn’t over specific b/c the “actual words” I referred to in my parenthetical statement were some of his available on video comments about his political philosophy and objectives.

That is just the cherry on the top of his 911 Truther involvement.

When this first came out I went to the web site of the group that produced the petition and they had a huge rally several days later that was repulsive. If, and that is a gigantic if, he didn’t know who and what this group is/was he needs a keeper rather than being appointed one of our keepers.

Man, just give the man the benefit of the doubt. What did he ever do to you?

    Nothing, yet!

I don’t want him to have the power ever to do anything to me or others b/c I can imagine, with horror based on what I know of him, and if it’s just the same to you I’ll pass.

People who move in his circles and are so obviously connected to some of the most powerful people in the world should be closely scrutinized and judged by all who may be one day placed in their power.
