On the other hand, if someone intentionally used it in a sly way, and then claimed innocence or satire or “tweaking the media” as Rush Limbaugh often does, then it would be a different matter and I would condemn it.

Cotton pickin’ is a phrase used frequently in friendly conversation, particularly by Southerners and Midwesterners and has nothing to do with race and is not a racial slur.

However, Sanchez should know better than to use it on the air, particularly in reference to the president. Sanchez does not belong on the air. This must be number 10,000 of the inappropriate things he has said this year.
He needs to go. Maybe he could work behind the scenes but he is a disgrace on the air.
