The New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof Meets With Mubarak Supporters
The New York Times op-ed columnist Nicholas Kristof is in Cairo covering the ongoing protests and was able to get some time in with a group of pro-Mubarak demonstrators. Kristof referred to this group of protesters as “thugs” and was sure to mention that their talking points all sound suspiciously similar, adding to pervading speculation that such protesters may be working for Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak himself.
One man expressed his belief that the protests against the government would soon be over as those around chanted slogans in favor of Mubarak. The chants grew so loud, in fact, that at one point Kristof asked the man to tell them all to be quiet.
Kristof then traveled to the other end of Tahrir Square after someone in the crowd threatened to break his crew’s cameras. He also noted that some in the crowds were brandishing weapons like sticks and straight razors.
