Chambliss Calls JoeMyGod Blogger to Apologize for Fired Staffer’s Homophobic Comments

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) has made right with JoeMyGod blogger Joe Jervis by calling to apologize for a staffer who posted “All Faggots Must Die” on the popular gay blog and announcing that the staffer has been let go.

The posting on Jervis’ site were traced to an Atlanta-area building housing offices for both Chambliss and Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.). The location of the commenter was found after Jervis put his loyal commenters and fans on the case shortly after the comment appeared. Jervis quickly posted the Internet Protocol address which was traced to the office building.

Chambliss quickly acknowledged that he was investigating the allegation and Jervis posted on his Facebook page this afternoon that he’s now heard from Chambliss and he’s accepted his apology:

OK. So Sen. Saxby Chamliss (sic) just called me to personally to deliver his “sincerest apology” about his staffer’s action. His press release should be out within minutes.

Jervis has also posted a summary of his conversation with Chambliss on his blog. Chambliss did not identify the name of the staffer or what position the staffer had in the senator’s office.

Here is a statement from Chambliss’ office:

The office of the Senate Sergeant at Arms has concluded its investigation, and I responded to that report immediately with the removal of a member of my staff. I commend the Sergeant at Arms, Terrance Gainer, and his staff for their very thorough and professional work.

“I have called Mr. Jervis, the blog’s author, and apologized to him personally, and I am sorry for the hurt this incident has caused. Regardless of one’s position on issues and policies, such comments are simply unacceptable, are not befitting those who work in the U.S. Senate, and I will not tolerate them from my staff.”

glad it was resolved. Public office and officials are wrong to put down any persons or groups. Now if only this could extend to the other disparging going on.

Hmmm Gay-basher in Senate offices of right-wing nut Saxby Chambliss? The douche that smeared his electoral opponent and double-amputee, Vietnam war hero Max Cleland in television ads comparing him to Bin Laden.
Why was he fired? Seems he learned it from his boss. Bet he was given a different position, not really fired.
I am SHOCKED I tells ya, shocked.

There couldn’t possibly be any Klansmen in Chambliss’ office closets … could there?
