Today In Contextual Advertising: Atheism Article Sells “Holy Health!”

The advertisement appears to have since disappeared from this Daily Beast article on more aggressive recruitment campaigns by atheists, but we have it preserved for posterity. Could “holy” and some of the religion-themed words be linked by some infernal algorithm? Either way, it weirdly gives the impression that the best way to fight the creeping menace of Atheism is with antioxidant-rich pomegranate juice and a 1960s Batman-like exclamation: “Holy Health!”

I’ve been bouncing between agnotistic and atheist for 30 yrs now, yet I haven’t seen any references to God in public that have offended me, nor was I offended by the pledge, which I proudly recited as a child, nor do I mind “In God We Trust”… nor have I felt the need to encourage anyone else to stop believing.People need to just get over themselves on this crap.

Creepy George W. Bush Billboard Asks Minnesotans: “Miss Me Yet?”

    video

Minnesota got a special treat recently when a billboard depicting a jolly-looking former Pres. George W. Bush appeared over Interstate 35 asking, "Miss me yet?" The idea was too surreal to actually exist for many people who called "Photoshop" at first sight, but NPR confirmed yesterday that it was, in fact, looming over the Minnesota landscape, waving uncomfortably to drivers on their way to work.

Jenny Sanford is All Things to All Pundits

    video

The story of embattled political soon-to-be ex-wife Jenny Sanford is one of the rarest incidents in American politics: a story that both sides can spin to fit their narrative. Sanford went on a media tour to promote her new book, Staying True, that hit all three major cable news channels and the unofficial fourth power in journalism, The Daily Show. And despite the vast ideological gaps among the mediums, every interviewer wanted her on their team.
