Twitter CEO Apologizes for ‘Automated’ Promotion of White Supremacist Ad
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey apologized today after a report revealed that a white supremacist ad was being promoted on the social networking site.
Vice’s Motherboard reported yesterday on how someone came across the following promoted ad on Twitter:
.@twitter I can't believe anything still surprises me, but why the fuck am I seeing nazi ads on this website pic.twitter.com/jtKKnn8XR5

Ariana Lenarsky told Motherboard, “Twitter normalized, promoted, and profited off of Nazi white supremacy propaganda. I should not have to explain to Twitter why promoting Nazi propaganda on their website is a dangerous and immoral thing to do.”
A spokesperson for Twitter told Motherboard yesterday that “it looks like the screenshot in that tweet is either old or photoshopped.”
That, well, pissed off Lenarsky:
HAHAHAH TWITTER IS SAYING I PHOTOSHOPPED THIS TWEET @twitter @Support I AM GOING TO GO LIVE IN AN ATTIC LIKE ANNE FRANK TIL YOU FIX THIS pic.twitter.com/8EUSUKqVBo

She said she’s leaving Twitter until this is dealt with.
Well, Dorsey himself got wind of the ad and tweeted an apology this afternoon:
We made a mistake here and we apologize. Our automated system allowed an ad promoting hate. Against our policy. We did a retro and fixed! https://t.co/7gvycmzpsm
