Weird Al Yankovic: ‘It’s Extremely Uncool to Use My Name’ To Describe Al Franken

The guy behind parody classics such as ‘Eat It’ and ‘Amish Paradise’ really wants folks to know that he doesn’t want them using his moniker as a nickname for other Als — specifically, a certain Minnesota lawmaker who has recently come under fire.

On Monday, the comic singer took to Twitter to post an approved application showing that the name “Weird Al” was trademarked to him. He also included a message calling on those looking to insult Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) and other famous Als to look elsewhere.

Hours later, Yankovic sent out another tweet, explaining that while he initially posted his trademark application as a joke, the main point he was trying to make was that it was “extremely uncool” for others to use his name “in this kind of context.” He also attached a picture of a Fox News story on Franken that used Weird Al as a tag.

With Franken already dealing with calls to resign after Leeann Tweeden accused him of forcibly kissing and groping her during a USO tour in 2006, the high-profile Democrat was hit with another accusation on Monday. This woman alleged that Franken grabbed her by the buttocks when they took a photo together in 2010.
