White House Press Corps Icon Helen Thomas Tells Jews To ‘Go Back To Germany’

Well this isn’t likely to turn out well for White House Press Corps legend Helen Thomas The senior correspondent to Hearst newspapers was interviewed on camera by Rabbi David Nessenoff of Rabbilive.com (during the Jewish Heritage reception at the White House) and let lose some commentary that is sure to make many wonder if seasoned Thomas might be losing it. Thomas has since issued an apology, which can be read below.

Thomas made news earlier this week with her aggressive stance on the White House response to the Israeli flotilla attack from earlier in the week. She posted the following apology on her website earlier today:

“I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.”

This story is just getting started, and given Thomas iconic status in the White House press corps (combined with her fierce and consistent position on what she calls Israeli occupation of Palestine) this story is sure to continue through the next few days.

    Helen is a woman of ancient age, it is fair to assume she’s been holding in these feelings since World War II.
    This comment precedes the Flotilla Fiasco and clearly seems an extension of the historic antisemitism that led to Hitler’s Holocaust and the Russian pogroms. I used to like Ms. Thomas but this comment trashes world history. I may not like current Israeli policy but Helen’s ignoring her own peoples violent behavior to Jews and other minorities is nasty, shocking and disgusting. If you listen and understand her comment she was trashing the United States of America as badly as the Tea Baggers do in their lack of understanding of our country and what it’s all about. Note: she requires American Jews to return to Poland and Germany in addition to the Jews living in Israel. Reminder Helen: Israel/Palestine is the undeniable biblical and historical home of the Jewish people. Germany/Poland is the home of the six (6)million Jews slaughtered by her coreligionists some time after her coreligionists drove them from their homeland.

    I remember one pundit saying that if people on the Left really said what they thought, they would never win an election. But now Helen Thomas no longer knows when to self-censor, and she says exactly what she thinks. And the rest of the Left can only look on in horror at her embarrassing honesty. Then again, the ridiculous stuff she says is just the same ridiculous stuff that other “progressives” believe, but are too smart (or ashamed) to say in public.

    An obvious question is why?

    The last legal document of ownership is from David Balfour in 1917 abdicating the British rule of Palestine to a diaspora. It has been abused since on both sides and is still an obvious point of contention.

    Once more Media Shite has jumped head first into the sewer. Thomas was clearly referring to Israel occupying Palestinian land, such as the squatters in the West Bank. Most of these squatters are recent arrivals from Eastern Europe (esp Russia) and elsewhere outside the Middle East*, not refugees from the aftermath of the Nazi Holocaust.

    * For example: Baruch Goldstein was born and raised in New York, moved to Israel and became a squatter in the West Bank before he opened fire into a crowd of worshipers, killing 29 and wounding 125. Today, he’s a folk hero among Israel’s Lebensraum community.

    As Norman Finkelstein pointed out in Beyond Chutzpah, every time Israel is caught committing some atrocious act, its media fluffers start clucking like hens about how another Shoah is imminent. This smear job on Helen Thomas proves Finkelstein right.

    And while I’m sure the usual suspects will figure out a way to bend this (or at least try to bend it) in a way that doesn’t paint Thomas as a complete bigot… they would jump at the chance to attack O’Reilly, Beck, or FNC for much less. In fact, most of them (as we’ve already seen) will probably just attack those folks instead of addressing the issue itself.

    This is more than just an “oops”… more than just “poorly worded.” This is unacceptable.

    And, Paula. I think the 6 million figure comes from the lists of peoples murdered, and that the lists were kept by the murderers. Perhaps they exaggerated, and perhaps they counted people on their lists as having been killed more than once. The dead people certainly didn’t maintain their own lists.

    But, one thing we know for certain is that American journalists did not come up with the number. So, an analysis about whether some of it was murder and some of it was just taking credit for murders that they would have liked to commit . . . does one of those positions actually made anybody look more sympathetic? Murder is still a crime in every country and civilization, and every time society lets it go, it’s a tragedy for all concerned. I don’t think that any modern culture, civilization or religion looks fondly on murder. Questions about which murderous regimes are less offensive than other murderous regimes shouldn’t lead us to the conclusion that murder is ever good.

Helen Thomas may have made some foolish comments but she was one of the very few journalists who consistently challenged real war criminals during the Bush/Cheney regime. The warmongering of the Bush era unfortunately infected the Israeli leadership who to this day don’t understand that they have to make peace with the Arab world, and it’s clearly evident that the bombing and isolation of Gaza has made things much worse. I’m a Jew and we are a peace loving and God fearing people. Eventually, especially with pressure from the U.S., the leadership of Israel will wake up and make peace with the Arab world. We’ve supported the worst elements in the Arab world because of our thirst for oil and maybe with the ruination of the Gulf of Mexico, this also will come to an end. And for those of you with no memory or understanding of ethics and spirituality, our destruction of Iraq and all the needless slaughter of innocent people all over the Middle East ranks pretty high on the scale of what terrorism and warmongering is about.     Like I said the The first amendment covers radical and offensive speech as long as it doesn’t lead to imminent danger. Check the supreme court decision on Yates v. United States.

    Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969) made it even clearer. This is a case that covers both free speech and hate crime. The supreme court clearly states that the state of Ohio Government cant ”punish inflammatory speech unless it is directed to inciting and likely to incite imminent lawless action”. The lawless actions can include hate speech which would be clearly reasonable to be charge.

    According to the Supreme Court “The constitutional guarantees of free speech and free press,” Supreme Court also said “do not permit a State to forbid or prescribe advocacy of the use of force or of law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless actions and is likely to incite or produce such action” (pp. 571–572). Now focus on the part that reads from ‘except’. You see that, that covers hate speech. If an action leads to that, according to the supreme court they can clearly be charged for inciting violence and causing an imminent danger (in order words hate speech).

    Remember the above case had a Klan back ground, and the supreme court defended their freedom of speech. Now compare that to what Ms Thomas said, now we have people crying fowl. If her action appeared to be hateful, and would lead to violence and danger, then Mr. she would be charged, plain and simple. Now are you going to limit freedom of speech, because some people throw hissy fit. Go ahead, see how far that takes you. Hearst newspapers would not have hesitated to fire her immediately, because it could land them in trouble if she writes hateful stuff in her column. So gimme a break about Ms Thomas being a Nazi, and all the wretched name you are calling. You either accept the constitution or not.

Article 33 of the Fourth Convention states: “No protected person may be punished for an offense he or she has not personally committed,” and “collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited”.
    Also ‘No general penalty, pecuniary or otherwise, shall be inflicted upon the population on account of the acts of individuals for which they cannot be regarded as jointly and severally responsible’. Laws and Customs of War on Land (Hague IV); October 18, 1907, Article 50
    The Israelis and their Egyptian friends have punished the Palestinians in Gaza for electing Hamas. An election which the States department under W. had organised. Because they didn’t like the outcome, they decided to lock them in a prison, start an oppressed war and killed their children and destroyed buildings including schools. You would ignore that because of your bias, but I don’t expect much from you. Read the Geneva convention and know the meaning of collective punishment. Flotilla my behind, blatant oppression is going and you’d rather everyone turn a blind eye. Nananana no way.

There would be no Holocaust Deniers if ANYONE simply stepped forward with something like PROOF of the number. ANYONE. Instead, we get allegations of “anti-semitism”; and, in Europe, you get THROWN IN JAIL for even QUESTIONING the number!!!! THAT IS AN OUTRAGE IN AN OTHERWISE “FREE” SOCIETY!!!

    No jounalist, no government, NOBODY will provide proof of the figure. NOBODY. So, instead of calling ME a “Holocaust Denier”, how about we call you a “Holocaust Histrionic”, because YOU continue to perpetrate a “factoid” without a SHRED OF EVIDENCE supporting your number. You HEARD IT; so, you REPEAT it — without independent verification.

    The question is if you accept freedom of speech and the press. That’s the topic you really need to study. Freedom of speech is not intended for polite talk, but offensive speech. So don’t look at me, I didn’t create it. That’s a homework for ya.
