obama-hrc-316x241 Video

For the first time since 2009, President Barack Obama was the keynote speaker at tonight’s Human Rights Campaign national dinner in Washington, DC. He will be addressing the LGBT rights group on the movement and, unlike two years ago, he has one major achievement to show them under his belt: that he kept his promise to get rid of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell he made during his last keynote.

Ann Coulter Takes Her Schtick to Homocon and Everyone Stays on Script

anncoulterhomocon

Never one to shy away from publicity and attention, Ann Coulter headlined gay conservative fundraiser, Homocon, this weekend and everyone is reacting as planned in Coulter’s perfectly choreographed appearance. Progressives and gays and lesbians are appalled, conservatives are titillated, and GOProud has gotten tons of ink.

A week after Robert Gibbs went after the “professional left,” another White House official is allegedly airing his frustration with bloggers and this time it’s the LGBT blogosphere and their constant complaining about the Obama administration that is raising concern.

President Obama Signs Memorandum Protecting Hospital Visitation Rights For LGBT Community (Video Update)

Picture 3 video

President Barack Obama signed a memorandum this evening to expand visitation rights for relatives of those ailing, a move that the LGBT community is praising for explicitly referring to the rights of gays and lesbians to visit and make decisions for sick partners. “Hospitals,” it reads, “may not deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.”

Gay rights activist and enlisted soldier (still, though maybe not for long) Lt. Dan Choi attended a Human Rights Campaign-sponsored protest today during what was supposed to be a peaceful protest against the military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy. Exasperated by the protesters’ attitude, apparently, Lt. Choi and fellow soldier Capt. Jim Pietrangelo chained themselves to the fence of the White House.

Kathy Griffin Calls Congressman “A Queen” In D-List Lobbying Effort

Kathy_Griffin_NO_H8

Kathy Griffin has brought her Bravo show to Washington, D.C. to lobby for repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, but calling House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) “a queen” is getting her the perfectly calculated attention she likely wants to bring to the issue. Griffin told Roll Call’s gossip columnists Emily Heil and Elizabeth Brotherton “I’m meeting with this big queen named Jim Clyburn” and bragged “I’m going to be the first person to ever walk into his office and go, ‘Hey, girl!’”

Some of the biggest names in the LGBT and progressive blog world participated Feb. 15 in a coordinated effort to encourage the Human Rights Campaign, the largest gay rights organization in the country and a frequent object of blogger scorn, to put its heft behind efforts to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

David Letterman’s Amanda Simpson Transgender Joke Sparks Outrage

David_Letterman video

After his jokes about the Palin women spawned a movement to get him fired, you’d think David Letterman would have developed a teensy bit of sensitivity about sex and gender issues. Apparently not. A bit from his Tuesday night show, in which a stagehand flees the set in horrified disgust at transgender Obama appointee Amanda Simpson, has Human Rights Campaign calling Dave out and calling for an apology.

It’s Time For “Don’t Talk, Just Do”

There is something a good portion of liberals and conservatives can agree on: Obama does a lot of talking but not quite enough following through. At the Human Rights Campaign 13th Annual Dinner, Obama reiterated his campaign promise to abolish “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”  The reaction by some seemed to suggest that people thought Obama was repealing [...]
