Al Sharpton: ‘Nice Guy’ Rick Santorum’s ‘Scary’ Views May Cause Him To Lose His Luster

Video

On Wednesday’s Morning Joe, fellow MSNBC host Al Sharpton came on to discuss the latest twist in the Republican primary race. According to a new poll, Rick Santorum leads Mitt Romney, 36% to 29%. If his new “Rombo” ad is any indication, Santorum is feeling pretty good about himself.

Relative to his opponents, Sharpton remarked that Santorum’s biggest strength is that he is authentic. He is “not playing the regular guy, he is the regular guy.” Sharpton went on to say that the GOP hopeful’s biggest weakness, however, is his extreme, “way to the right,” stance on social issues, including contraception and gay marriage.

Especially with the recent health care debacle, Sharpton said the Republicans were wrong to turn the debate away from religious freedom and into a fight about contraception. Though host Joe Scarborough argued the president highlighted the birth control issue, Sharpton argued the Republicans “played into it.” At some point, he said, “you have to let it go.”

This is the kind of extreme take on issues that Sharpton said will cause problems for Santorum. He went on to add:

Then you make it easier for the other side. I think that’s the danger with Santorum. When we get by the nice guy and deal with the issues, does what he represent become so scary to people that he loses his luster?

Al Sharpton talking bad about a GOP candidate.

. Hmm, we ought to listen closely because I’m sure his comments are a result of intensive political analysis and in no shape or form are a result of ideology.

After all…Obama’s scary views didn’t seem to have much of an impact.

Ahh if this doesn’t pan out, all Rick has to do is to accuse innocent people of rape, then try to foment racial divides and he can get his own show on MSDNC like Al.

There;’s no doubt in my mind that when he really seems to be becoming a real threat to Romney, begins to stand a real chance of preventing his coronation, that there will be a panic from everyone in the Republican party that isn’t on the extreme right as the guy’s views on social issues are thoroughly offputting and make him completely unelectable. On top of that, he’s come off as inhuman as much as Romney has, but has yet to get much attention for that. Remember him lecturing parents of sick children and sick kids themselves about why they should be happy to allow pharmaceutical companies to charge whatever they like for life saving medication as the free market is more valuable than human lives?

“People have no problem paying $900 for an iPad, but
paying $900 for a drug they have a problem with — it keeps you alive.
Why? Because you’ve been conditioned to think health care is something
you can get without having to pay for it.”

Ladies and gentlemen, Rick Santorum, Christian man of the people.

    Hey Al.
How many people has Rick Santorum caused to die in a horrific fire because he whipped a angry mob into a frenzy…?
    Hey Al.
How many cops has he accused of rape in one of the country’s greatest race hoaxes…?

Is Rick Santorum a tax cheat?

    Race pimp we much.

But wait a second.  I thought that Birth Control is free now?  You mean there is a cost associated with it somewhere?

    Who’s paying for it then?

I think most reasonable people can agree Santorum is authentic

He just comes across as authentically homophobic and anti woman in some of his speeches

plus he still has that google problem

What does that have to do with Rick Santorum’s stances on social issues being a vote killer?

Contraception would be covered by health insurance, the providers of which would actually save them money thanks to fewer unwanted pregnancies which are a darn site more expensive… But hey, contraception is wrong and the churches should never have to compromise, adapt to modern times or god forbid, follow the law of the land as freedom of religion means they should have the right to inflict their dogma on people who don’t necessarily agree as their freedom of religion trumps the rights of others.

I hope Santorum becomes the nominee.  The guy was too radical for his own state.

Santorum’s far radical views are scary to me, and I consider myself a moderate Republican. I think a MAJOR problem with Santorum is that he not only believes a certain way, but in his own way he openly judges others for their beliefs, opinions and actions. I don’t believe in gay marriage, nor do I believe that homosexuality is a path that God intended people to walk down; HOWEVER, God tells us NOT to judge nor condemn, but to LOVE others unconditionally.  I sense such condemnation, bitterness, and “religious eliteness” in that man.  Sadly too, he took Romney’s mis-spoken phrase about ‘not caring about the poor’ (we ALL KNOW Romney does indeed care about the poor….media and political BS play off of words) and Santorum tries to make point that Romney doesn’t care about ALL. It appears quite clear to me that it is Santorum who DOES NOT care about all….UNLESS, of course, they act and think the way he does!

Those thoughts and actions are definitely NOT Ronald Reagan, nor American, nor in accordance with our Constitution.
