CNN Wonders Why Fox News Hasn’t Suspended Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin & John Bolton

It’s always strange when one cable news outlet is compelled to report on the news being made by its competition. Case in point? The following report by CNN’s Joe Johns on yesterday’s announcement by Fox News that they were suspending the contributor agreements with Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum because of the increasing likelihood that they will be running for president. Johns continues in his report to ask why other Fox News contributors — namely Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and John Bolton — haven’t been suspended.

In the following report, Johns cites an exclusive article by LA TimesMatea Gold who quotes Dianne Brandi, Fox News’ executive vice president of legal and business affairs. But oddly, just second’s later, he asks what’s different about Palin, Huckabee and Bolton, when the very same article reveals the explanation he’s looking for:

Gold reports:

Fox News still has two other potential White House contenders on the payroll: former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

“As soon as each of them shows some serious intention to form an exploratory committee, we would take the same action,” Brandi said. “Huckabee is on a book tour, so I think his present intention is to sell books.”

As for Palin, “She hasn’t yet shown a serious intention to form an exploratory committee.”

Brandi said the network sent Gingrich and Santorum letters Tuesday night informing them of the suspension. The two men have until May 1 to tell the network whether they plan to run, or their contracts will be officially terminated.

Johns later explains to CNN host Brooke Baldwin that this isn’t the first time such a suspension occurred, adding that in 1999 CNN followed a similar process when their contributor Pat Buchanan was planning to run for President.
