Colbert Takes Shot at Obama During Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony

Tonight, President Barack Obama will be one of Stephen Colbert’s final guests on The Colbert Report during a live show from George Washington University. And after this searing joke the host made during last night’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, the president might be working furiously on the perfect comeback.

CNN’s John King shared the clip on New Day Morning morning, saying it made a “key 2014 midterm election year point.”

“The most powerful and influential person in the world, Michelle Obama,” Colbert said from the stage. “There she is, looking radiant, on camera next to the president, which I assume means she has no future plans to run for office.”

“There are a lot of Democrats who don’t have that courage,” Colbert added as both the president and the first lady gamely laughed at the joke.

The moment failed to rival the most awkward lines from Colbert’s 2006 White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech, but it was close.
