Fox News: Senate Passes 9/11 First Responders Bill

It’s a huge victory at the very last minute–the lame duck Congress delivering the 9/11 First Responders bill–and a moment in history.

On Fox News, Shepard Smith, who railed against the Republicans who blocked the bill in the face of 9/11 heroes, asking “how do they sleep” at night, was on set to report the passage this afternoon.

At times visibly teary-eyed, Smith called it a “compromise of utmost importance for those who put their lives on the line.”

Fox News correspondent Steve Centanni described how the deal got done:

“Everybody saw the writing on the wall, the time was running out, Republicans might get a black eye for not supporting the 9/11 responders if they blocked the bill, and Democrats wouldn’t have a chance to get quite as good a deal if they waited for the next Congress.”

Smith’s coverage of the 9/11 First Responders bill even earned him praise from the most unlikely of quarters–at MSNBC, where Rachel Maddow gave due props for Smith creating a “hullabaloo” about the bill: “All hail Shep Smith at Fox News,” she declared. “And I’m not kidding.”

With the bill done–seemingly in a matter of days–as Smith banged the drums, the Fox anchor called it “a moment in history.” Watch it here, from Fox News:

Good. I’m glad that our heroes will be given the treatment they’ve deserved for so long. Still though, nine years… I wonder how many died from illness contracted during the aftermath of that tragedy while waiting for this.

    I’m glad this bill passed.
I’m glad the Republicans had the good sense to change it from a “pork” bill into a more accurate bill without bloated amounts for questionable claims & reduced the lawyer’s fees to an appropriate level, way down.

I’m sad that Shepard Smith couldn’t see what was really going on and took a shallow view during the debate.
We saved over 2 billion in “putz payments” to people who saw this as a financial opportunity not to be wasted.

Again, the Republicans did the right thing by forcing the Democrats to do something RIGHT.

    Dear Arkansas Steve:

You do know that the demonstrable “pork” contained in the bill is what we now call “corporate.” The primary hold-up on passing the bill was the objections made, as early as September, by the Chamber of Commerce to both parties. The Republicans refused to sign on, even at the risk of appearing cold-hearted, until they won the chamber’s point. Which they did. Oink-fking-oink!

    Thankyou democrats

FUCK YOU RETHUGLICANS! I will enjoy burning in hell, knowing you are right by my side.

how many republicans signed on in the end?huh? who brought it to the floor and actually pushed for it.

Fuck you….maybe if rethuglicans spent half of that energy in scrutinizing the military budget as this 911 bill h.c bill I would give them some credit. But since they dont,.,.again…fuck you and your precious rethuglicans. I sincerely hope there is a god so I can get a front row seat of you burning in hell.

It’s a Shame a Shame it took this jokers to finally get it done. They’d rather pass their porulus bills before serving these people. Its A SHAME, A Big one.

If you Republicans want to rewrite history, at least wait a little while and don’t try and do it on day one. How dumb is that. The truth is Repubs were shamed into supporting this bill. Thank you Jon Stewart and Shep Smith. Facts are facts.
