Fox News Starts Week With Another Victory Over Competitors Combined
Cable news ratings, August 17, 2009: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:
• Continuing a trend started last week, Fox News beat CNN, MSNBC, HLN and CNBC combined in total viewers and the A25-54 demographic last night during prime time. It also topped the foursome in total day total viewers.
• MSNBC’s repeats at 10pmET and 11pmET topped CNN’s line-up at those hours in both total viewers and the A25-54 demo last week – and that continued Monday as well. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow’s repeats beat Anderson Cooper 360 live at 10pmET and in his repeat.
• The top non-FNC show last night was Maddow’s in the demo and Olbermann’s in total viewers.
• CNN’s Lou Dobbs had a solid night, finishing 2nd (well behind FNC’s Shepard Smith) in both categories at 7pmET.

MSNBC’s strategy by going partisan and getting a loyal following is working, seems like.
Not only did Anderson lose to two repeats, his numbers were lower than Campbell Brown’s in total viewers, before you know it he will be down to “Ed Show” numbers! I am convinced that Anderson’s “tea bag” comment has something to do with this. It is one thing to be biased, which Anderson has demonstrated on a regular basis, but throwing insulting vulgar comments at hard working average Americans is quite another thing. Even “demo” people like myself who do not totally agree with the protesters look down on that sort of thing. I think Anderson will have the stench of “tea bags” around his neck for a long time to come.
Most people know what they are getting with the majority of programming on FNC, but I think they thought they were getting objective reporting from Anderson and have been disappointed by his recent antics. As bad as his ratings are they could be worse. I would be interested to see how he would do against all live programming instead of repeats. I doubt Jon Klein has the balls to put Anderson’s popularity to a real test.
I suppose anything is possible, but I doubt even another “Katrina” could totally resurrect Anderson’s reputation. It is a shame that he threw it away for a cheap Kathy Griffin type joke. I thought he had more class than that.
Of course he always has “Regis and Kelly” to fall back on.
Shep’s numbers are impressive! He is one of the few truly objective journalists left on TV.
CNN’s John King, USA Premieres On Web With Rehearsal Show

There are two very distinct things to note about the way CNN has introduced the upcoming 7pmET show John King, USA to its audience - the show itself and the way it happened. John King hosted a trial run of the program today on CNN.com/live, which gave a sneak peek at what the show will be, but also gave viewers a chance to give their take on the first look.
Is Meet the Press Trying to Diversify its Panels?: An Update
A few weeks ago, Mediaite reported that Meet the Press has pledged to diversify its panels of guests and commentators. So how are they doing? Well, the show has gone four weeks in a row where African American men were featured on the show. This week's show will actually go one better: an African American guest and an African American journalist on the roundtable.
