Hasselhoffs, Palins Have Rough Night In Reality Ratings

As the truism goes, David Hasselhoff is beloved in Germany. But American TV viewers, apparently, have better things to do with their time.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians style A&E show Hasselhoffs premiered to disappointing ratings on Sunday night:

The 10 p.m. deubt of Hasselhoffs delivered only 718,000 viewers, with the audience shrinking considerably for the second half-hour episode at 10:30 p.m., with 505,000 viewers.

By comparison, A&E’s most recent reality series debut, Storage Wars, drew 2 million viewers. Must be a tad tough on The Hoff’s ego to get trumped by a show about storage units.

Hasselhoffs drew somewhat negative reviews from critics, too — with pans from the Washington Post (“dull and transparently desperate”) and LA Times.

Also in reality TV ratings news, the on-and-off-again love affair with Sarah Palin’s Alaska is back off. After a record-setting debut on TLC, SPAlaska‘s ratings crashed in the second week, and then rebounded for week three. In week four–noteworthy for Palin killing a caribou–viewers bailed again, with ratings off 20 percent.

Next Sunday, Palin teams up with Kate Gosselin for a reality show mashup that might boost SPAlaska‘s numbers.

Funny you all whine about cable shows like this that have multiple airings. Why not take the viewers for all airings in one week instead of focusing on just the first airing?!

Ooops, if you did that then you’d actually know how well the programs are doing.

Well by that logic, Jon Stewart would have way more viewership than the other late night programs.

There is a reason that you don’t take all the airings for a show, its because ratings are there to inform an advertiser how much they should pay for a thirty second spot. It’s also the reason that the rating in the demo is the most important part of ratings and that overall number of viewers is pretty meaningless. An advertiser would pay much more to a show that has a 2.5 18-49 rating and 3.6 million total viewers than it would for a 1.0 18-49 rating with 15 million viewers.

Palin’s show still had 3 million viewers on a Sunday night
on TLC and it gets reported here as down 20%.
That is as many as MSNBC has combined during Prime
Time on a week day, but numbers just come out an glare
at’cha dont they!

Ah yes, the pointless ratings wars. The people that are sticking up for Palin and fighting for her “ratings cred” are even more ridiculous than the idiots that seek pleasure out of her low ratings like it fucking means something.

I don’t know Marceaux, I mean Blower. Looks to me like the Drop Out Governor’s fans are doing to her what she did to the people of Alaska. I understand there’s an open slot on Portage, Indiana, cable access for her, however.

Did you read above that she had 3 million viewers. I know you have proven over and over that when it comes to ratings you are a idiot, but the above headline is misleading. For that network her ratings are huge.
